Quercetin + Tretinoin
Tretinoin brand names: Vesanoid, Retin-A, Renova, Altreno.
Quercetin has a moderate interaction with Tretinoin. Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP2C8 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2C8 (CYP2C8) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Tretinoin
Tretinoin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C8 (CYP2C8) SUBSTRATES — the group Quercetin interacts with.
In vitro research shows that quercetin inhibits CYP2C8. Inhibition of paclitaxel (Taxol) metabolism via CYP2C8 has been reported in vitro. However, a small study in humans found no effect of quercetin on rosiglitazone (Avandia), which is also a CYP2C8 substrate.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for oral tretinoin (the capsules used for leukemia, not the skin creams). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2C8 to help clear tretinoin from your body. Quercetin, in lab dishes, seems to slow that same enzyme down. In theory, that could let tretinoin build up a bit and make its side effects, things like headache, dry skin and lips, bone pain, or fluid retention, more likely or stronger.
That said, I want to be honest about the evidence: this is based on test-tube research, not real people, and one human study with a similar drug showed no effect at all. So this is mostly a theoretical concern. Still, tretinoin is a serious medication, so please run any quercetin supplement past your oncology team or pharmacist first.

About Quercetin
What is Quercetin?
- Seasonal allergies
- Antioxidant support
- Heart and blood pressure health
- Anti-inflammatory support
- Immune support
- Exercise recovery
Quercetin is a plant flavonoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties found in many common foods and sold as a supplement. While early research is interesting for allergies, blood pressure, and inflammation, strong human evidence is limited for most uses. It is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking high-dose supplements.
About Tretinoin
What Is Tretinoin Used For?
Brand names: Vesanoid, Retin-A, Renova, Altreno
Tretinoin cream 0.02% is approved to help lessen the look of fine facial wrinkles in people who also follow a comprehensive skin care and sun-avoidance program — including daily sunscreen, protective clothing, and moisturizers.
It's important to know what tretinoin does not do: it will not erase wrinkles, reverse sun damage, repair deeply weathered skin, or restore younger-looking skin. It has also not been shown to help with coarse or deep wrinkles, rough skin texture, dark spots, or sagging skin.

Tretinoin Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Tretinoin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Quercetin — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
