Quillaia + Enalapril Maleate
Enalapril Maleate brand names: Vasotec, Epaned.
We found no known interaction between Quillaia and Enalapril Maleate in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Quillaia and Enalapril Maleate
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Enalapril Maleate and Quillaia in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Enalapril Maleate
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Enalapril Maleate is filed under 5 classifications — including ace inhibitors (aceis), antihypertensive drugs, photosensitizing drugs. Quillaia has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being immunosuppressants (moderate) — and none of Enalapril Maleate’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Quillaia Does Interact With Other Medications
Quillaia has 121 moderate known drug interactions in our database — Enalapril Maleate isn’t one of them. If you take anything else, check it against the full list below.

Questions About Quillaia or Enalapril Maleate
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Quillaia or Enalapril Maleate, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), American Hellebore (major), American Mistletoe (major), Asarabacca (major) and Siberian Cocklebur (major).
By severity: 6 major · 136 moderate · 24 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Enalapril Maleate page
“Potassium is the supplement I worry about first with enalapril maleate (Vasotec, Epaned). This ACE inhibitor, used for high blood pressure and heart failure, already makes the body hold onto potassium, so adding more can raise blood levels too far, a problem called hyperkalemia.”

- What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.
About Quillaia
What is Quillaia?
- Cough and chest congestion
- Foaming agent in beverages
- Vaccine adjuvant (in pharmaceutical manufacturing)
- Washing and cleansing (traditional soap)
- Skin conditions
Quillaia (soap bark tree) is a plant whose bark contains foaming compounds called saponins, and it is widely used as an emulsifier in foods and drinks. As a supplement or herbal remedy its benefits are not well proven, and large amounts can be irritating or toxic, so it should be used cautiously and only as directed.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Quillaia is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Quillaia record says about it on its own.
Quillaia: dosing
There is no well-established standardized supplement dose for quillaia. The amounts used as a food and beverage additive are tightly limited by safety regulations. If you choose to use a quillaia product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed the recommended amount.

About Enalapril
What Is Enalapril Used For?
Brand names: Vasotec, Epaned
Enalapril treats high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
It also treats symptomatic heart failure. It is used for asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction (a weak pumping chamber of the heart without symptoms) to slow the development of overt heart failure and reduce hospital stays for heart failure. Enalapril oral solution (including Epaned) is labeled for high blood pressure in adults and children older than one month.

Enalapril Maleate Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Enalapril Maleate as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Quillaia — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
