Red Raspberry and Rosuvastatin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Rosuvastatin and Red Raspberry in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Rosuvastatin

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Rosuvastatin is filed under 4 classifications — including hmg-coa reductase inhibitors ("statins"), hepatotoxic drugs, oral drugs. Red Raspberry has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (moderate) and insulin (moderate) — and none of Rosuvastatin’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Red Raspberry Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Rosuvastatin. It is the side-effect record for Red Raspberry on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Red Raspberry, this list is the first place to look. One entry is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Wheezing / Shortness of breath Worth acting on Additional detail

“A case of occupational asthma due to the inhalation of red raspberry powder has been reported for a 35-year-old female. Symptoms included wheezing and shortness of breath.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Red Raspberry — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Rosuvastatin’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Rosuvastatin column appears here.

Pregnancy Likely Safe

When the fruit is used orally in amounts commonly found in foods.

Pregnancy Possibly Safe

When red raspberry leaf is used orally and appropriately in medicinal amounts during late pregnancy under the supervision of a healthcare provider. From our pharmacist’s overview on the Rosuvastatin page

“Rosuvastatin (Crestor, Ezallor) is a statin taken daily for years to lower cholesterol, and its supplement list deserves real scrutiny, not a quick skim. Five of the 63 ingredients on file carry a major rating, headed by grapefruit, which can raise statin blood levels, and by heavy drinking, since beer and wine compound the strain this…”

  • Pregnancy and labor support
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Digestive upset and diarrhea
  • Sore throat and mouth rinse
  • Antioxidant support

Red raspberry leaf is a traditional herbal remedy most often used as a tea in late pregnancy and for menstrual discomfort, but solid scientific evidence for these uses is limited. Rubus idaeus · Rosaceae · Leaves and fruit · Tea, capsules, tablets, dried leaf, liquid extract

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Red Raspberry is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Red Raspberry record says about it on its own.

Red Raspberry: dosing

There is no official or standardized dose for red raspberry leaf. It is most commonly taken as a tea made from dried leaves, and also comes in capsules, tablets, and liquid extracts.Because products vary in strength, the best approach is to follow the directions on the product label.

About Rosuvastatin

What Is Rosuvastatin Used For?

Brand names: Crestor, Ezallor

Rosuvastatin tablets are used alongside diet changes to lower LDL-C ("bad" cholesterol), total cholesterol, and triglycerides (blood fats), and to raise HDL-C ("good" cholesterol) in adults with high cholesterol or mixed cholesterol problems. They are also used in adults with very high triglycerides, a condition called primary dysbetalipoproteinemia (Type III, a genetic fat-metabolism disorder), and to slow the buildup of plaque in arteries (atherosclerosis).

In people without established heart disease but with multiple risk factors, rosuvastatin tablets can reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and procedures to open blocked arteries. For children and teens aged 8 and older with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH, an inherited high-cholesterol condition), the tablet form is used to lower LDL-C after diet alone has not worked. Crestor tablets are also approved to treat homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH, a more severe inherited form) in adults and in children aged 7 and older.
