Red Raspberry and Amlodipine Besylate

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Amlodipine Besylate and Red Raspberry in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Amlodipine Besylate

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Amlodipine Besylate is filed under 5 classifications — including calcium channel blockers, antihypertensive drugs, cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates. Red Raspberry has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (moderate) and insulin (moderate) — and none of Amlodipine Besylate’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

Red Raspberry in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Pregnancy Likely Safe

When the fruit is used orally in amounts commonly found in foods.

Pregnancy Possibly Safe

When red raspberry leaf is used orally and appropriately in medicinal amounts during late pregnancy under the supervision of a healthcare provider. Red raspberry leaf is used by nurse midwives to facilitate delivery. There is some evidence that red raspberry leaf in doses of up to 2.4 grams daily, beginning at 32 weeks' gestation and continued until delivery, can be safely used for this purpose. Make sure patients do not use red raspberry leaf without the guidance of a healthcare professional.

Pregnancy Likely Unsafe

When red raspberry leaf is used orally in medicinal amounts throughout pregnancy or for self-treatment. Red raspberry leaf might have estrogenic effects. These effects can adversely affect pregnancy. Tell pregnant patients not to use red raspberry leaf at any time during pregnancy without the close supervision of a healthcare provider.

Lactation Likely Safe

When the fruit is used orally in amounts commonly found in foods. There is insufficient reliable information available about the safety of red raspberry leaf; avoid using.

What Amlodipine Besylate Is Prescribed For, and What Red Raspberry Has Been Studied For

These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Amlodipine Besylate is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Red Raspberry is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.

Amlodipine Besylate is prescribed for: Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older. Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.

  • Hypertension studied, not established Red Raspberry has been studied for this. Natural Medicines rates the evidence: Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate Read what the research shows

    Red Raspberry for hypertension

Although there has been interest in using oral red raspberry leaf for hypertension, there is insufficient reliable information about the clinical effects of red raspberry for this purpose.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Amlodipine Besylate on your own; if you are taking Red Raspberry for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

  • Pregnancy and labor support
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Digestive upset and diarrhea
  • Sore throat and mouth rinse

Red raspberry leaf is a traditional herbal remedy most often used as a tea in late pregnancy and for menstrual discomfort, but solid scientific evidence for these uses is limited. Red Raspberry: dosing

There is no official or standardized dose for red raspberry leaf. It is most commonly taken as a tea made from dried leaves, and also comes in capsules, tablets, and liquid extracts.Because products vary in strength, the best approach is to follow the directions on the product label.
