Risperidone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Resveratrol interacts with.

Theoretically, resveratrol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that resveratrol can inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, clinical research shows that taking resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks does not necessitate dose adjustments to medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

Your body partly clears risperidone using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, resveratrol can slow that enzyme down. The theory is that if CYP3A4 is slowed, risperidone could build up a little, which might mean more side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, low blood pressure when standing, or stiffness and restlessness.

Here's the reassuring part: this concern comes mostly from lab work, not real people. In one human study, even 3000 mg of resveratrol daily for 8 weeks did not require dose changes for CYP3A4 medicines. Risperidone is not a prodrug, so the direction (a possible small increase) holds. Everyday amounts in grapes or berries shouldn't matter. Still, mention any resveratrol supplement to your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Risperidone Used For?

Brand names: Risperdal, Perseris

Risperidone is prescribed for three main conditions: schizophrenia (a disorder affecting how a person thinks, feels, and perceives reality), acute manic or mixed episodes in Bipolar I Disorder, and irritability associated with autistic disorder — including aggression, self-injury, temper tantrums, and rapid mood swings.

For bipolar mania, it can be used alone or alongside lithium or valproate. It is approved for use in both adults and certain age groups of children and adolescents, depending on the condition being treated.
