Here's the gist for budesonide (Entocort EC, Uceris, Tarpeyo) and rhubarb root. This isn't about how your body breaks the drug down. It's really about potassium. Like other corticosteroids, budesonide can nudge your potassium levels down over time. Rhubarb root works as a stimulant laxative, and lots of diarrhea flushes potassium out too. Stack the two and, in theory, you could lose more potassium than either alone.

Honestly, this is a theoretical concern based on how each works, not strong proof, and it mainly matters with frequent, high laxative doses of rhubarb root, not a slice of rhubarb pie. Watch for muscle cramps, weakness, or an irregular heartbeat. If you use rhubarb root regularly, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Budesonide Used For?

Brand names: Entocort EC, Pulmicort, Uceris, Tarpeyo, Eohilia

Budesonide inhalation suspension is used as a maintenance (long-term control) treatment for asthma in children 12 months to 8 years old. It also works as a preventive (prophylactic) therapy to reduce the frequency of asthma symptoms.

Important: This medication is not a rescue inhaler. It will not stop a sudden asthma attack. A separate fast-acting bronchodilator is needed for sudden symptoms.
