Here's the idea behind this pairing. Lenalidomide (Revlimid) works partly by tweaking your immune system, and in certain conditions like myelodysplastic syndrome it's actually meant to calm overactive immune signals. Selenium, on the other hand, has been shown in lab and early studies to give the immune system a little nudge upward. The concern is that, in theory, ramping up immune activity could work against what Lenalidomide is trying to do.

I want to be honest about how solid this is: the evidence here is weak, mostly test-tube and animal research, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Everyday food amounts of selenium are very unlikely to matter. The bigger question is concentrated selenium supplements. Since Lenalidomide treats serious conditions, please don't start or stop any supplement on your own. Just run it by your oncology team or pharmacist first.

About Lenalidomide

What Is Lenalidomide Used For?

Brand name: Revlimid

Lenalidomide capsules (brand names Revlimid and Lenalidomide) are used to treat several blood cancers and related conditions in adults. These include multiple myeloma (MM) — both in combination with dexamethasone and as maintenance therapy after a stem cell transplant — and transfusion-dependent anemia caused by low- or intermediate-1-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) linked to a specific chromosome change called deletion 5q.

Lenalidomide capsules are also used for mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) that has come back or stopped responding after at least two prior treatments (one of which included bortezomib). In combination with a rituximab product, they treat previously treated follicular lymphoma (FL) and previously treated marginal zone lymphoma (MZL). Lenalidomide is not approved for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) outside of clinical trials.
