Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thinking behind this one. Cyltezo (a biosimilar of Humira) is a medicine that calms down an overactive immune system, which helps with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and Crohn's disease. Concentrated shiitake mushroom extracts, on the other hand, contain beta-glucans like lentinan that may gently stimulate immune activity. So in theory, they could work against each other, and shiitake might slightly blunt how well your Cyltezo controls your symptoms.

I want to be honest with you though: this concern comes only from lab-dish studies, not from people, so it's very much a maybe. Eating shiitake as food is unlikely to cause trouble. The bigger question mark is daily concentrated extract supplements. Before starting one, just run it by your doctor or pharmacist.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Adalimumab-Adbm page

“Adalimumab-adbm (Cyltezo) calms an overactive immune system to control conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and Crohn's disease, and nearly every supplement on this list, echinacea and ashwagandha among the most familiar, could theoretically pull in the opposite direction by revving up immunity. None of the 53 interactions…”

  • Immune support
  • General wellness and nutrition
  • Cholesterol and heart health
  • Adjunct in cancer care (lentinan, AHCC)
  • Antioxidant support

Shiitake is a popular edible mushroom that is nutritious and safe to eat as food for most people.
