Soy and Acetaminophen, Caffeine, Isometheptene

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

CAFFEINE

Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Caffeine, Isometheptene

Acetaminophen, Caffeine, Isometheptene falls under CAFFEINE — the group Soy interacts with.

Theoretically, soy might reduce the clearance of caffeine.
Soy contains genistein. Taking genistein 1 gram daily for 14 days seems to inhibit caffeine clearance and metabolism in healthy females. This effect has been attributed to inhibition of the cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) enzyme, which is involved in caffeine metabolism. It is unclear if this effect occurs with the lower amounts of genistein found in soy.

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

This combination product (Migralam) for migraines contains caffeine, and that is the piece soy may touch. Soy isoflavones, especially genistein, can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 that normally clears caffeine. In theory, that means caffeine could hang around a bit longer in your body. If that happens, you might notice the usual caffeine-related effects feeling stronger: jitteriness, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling on edge.

Here's the honest part: this is theoretical, based on how the chemicals behave. The study showing it used about 1 gram of genistein a day, which is far more than you'd get from eating tofu or edamame. Normal soy foods are unlikely to cause trouble. If you take concentrated soy supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.
