Soy + Cyclacillin
Cyclacillin brand names: Cyclapen-W, Cylcapen.
Soy has a minor interaction with Cyclacillin. Theoretically, antibiotics may decrease the activity of soy isoflavones.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Cyclacillin
Cyclacillin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Soy interacts with.
Intestinal bacteria are responsible in part for converting soy isoflavones into their active forms. Antibiotics may decrease the amount of intestinal bacteria and decrease its ability to convert isoflavones.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Cyclacillin, which is a penicillin-type antibiotic. This interaction works the other direction from what people usually worry about: it's the soy that may come up short, not the antibiotic. Your gut bacteria help turn soy isoflavones (like genistein and daidzein) into their more active forms. Since Cyclacillin can knock down some of those friendly bacteria while you're on it, your body may convert less of the isoflavone, so you might get a bit less benefit from soy during your course of treatment.
The good news: this is theoretical, based only on lab work, and rated minor. Your Cyclacillin should still fight your infection just fine. Eating soy foods is fine, but if you take concentrated soy supplements, check with your pharmacist.

Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.

- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Cyclacillin page
“The pairing I would flag first for anyone on cyclacillin (Cyclapen-W) is activated charcoal, the sole major-rated entry among the 44 supplements and herbs on file. Charcoal binds drugs in the gut, so it can pull down how much of this penicillin-class antibiotic reaches your blood, and an underdosed antibiotic may leave the infection un…”

About Soy
What is Soy?
- Menopause symptoms (hot flashes)
- Heart and cholesterol health
- Bone health
- Plant-based protein source
- General nutrition
Soy is a nutritious bean that is a staple food and a popular source of plant protein and isoflavones. Eating soy foods as part of a balanced diet is generally considered safe for most people, and there is moderate evidence it may modestly help cholesterol and some menopause symptoms, though results vary. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated soy isoflavone supplements, especially if you have a history of hormone-sensitive conditions.

Natural Medicines records Cyclacillin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Soy — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
