Here's the simple version: both fenofibrate and Sweet Annie can be tough on the liver, so taking them together may add up and stress your liver more than either one alone. Fenofibrate is known to occasionally bump up liver enzymes, and Sweet Annie (artemisinin) has its own reports of liver irritation. Stacking two things that lean on the same organ is the concern here.

I'll be honest with you, this warning is mostly theoretical and based on anecdotal reports, not strong studies. Still, watch for signs your liver isn't happy: yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain on the upper right side, or unusual fatigue. Your doctor already checks liver bloodwork on fenofibrate, so loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining these.

While the purified drug is well studied for malaria, the herb itself as a supplement is not proven for the wide range of conditions people use it for, and self-treating malaria with the raw herb is dangerous. About Fenofibrate

What Is Fenofibrate Used For?

Brand names: Tricor, Fenofibrate, Lipidil Micro, Lipidil Supra, Antara, Lofibra, Triglide, Lipidil EZ

Fenofibrate is used alongside a cholesterol-lowering diet in adults to improve abnormal lipid levels. Tricor (tablet) and fenofibrate tablets are indicated to lower LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol), total cholesterol, triglycerides, and apolipoprotein B, and to raise HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) in adults with primary hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol) or mixed dyslipidemia (mixed abnormal lipid levels). They are also used to treat severe hypertriglyceridemia (very high triglycerides).

Antara and Lipofen (capsules) are indicated to reduce triglyceride levels in adults with severe hypertriglyceridemia, and to lower LDL cholesterol in adults with primary hyperlipidemia when other recommended LDL-lowering therapies cannot be used. Fenofibrate has not been shown to reduce heart attacks or cardiovascular deaths in patients with type 2 diabetes.
