Taurine + Nifedipine
Nifedipine brand names: Procardia XL, Adalat PA, Adalat, Nifedin, Nifed PA, and others.
Taurine has a moderate interaction with Nifedipine. Theoretically, taurine might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Nifedipine
Nifedipine falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Taurine interacts with.
Some clinical evidence suggests that taurine can reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: nifedipine already works by relaxing your blood vessels to bring your blood pressure down. Taurine, in supplement form, may have a gentle blood-pressure-lowering effect of its own. Stack the two together and you could end up a little lower than expected. This isn't about taurine changing how your body breaks the drug down, it's just two things nudging your pressure in the same direction.
If you notice dizziness, lightheadedness when standing up, flushing, headache, or feeling unusually tired, those could be signs your pressure dipped too far. To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based on how each works, and the human evidence on taurine is modest. The occasional energy drink likely won't matter, but before you add a regular taurine supplement, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Taurine
What is Taurine?
- Exercise performance and endurance
- Heart health
- Energy support
- Eye and nerve health
- Blood sugar support
Taurine is an amino acid your body makes naturally and that you also get from animal foods. It is widely used in energy drinks and sports supplements, and short-term use appears generally safe for most adults, though the evidence for many claimed benefits is mixed or limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before taking it regularly, especially if you have a health condition or take medications.
About Nifedipine
What Is Nifedipine Used For?
Brand names: Procardia XL, Adalat PA, Adalat, Nifedin, Nifed PA, Nifed, Procardia, Adalat XL, Adalat CC, Adalat LA, Adalat Retard, Adipine MR, Adipine XL, Cardilate MR, Coracten SR, Coracten XL, Fortipine LA 40, Hypolar Retard 20, Nifedipress MR, Nifopress Retard, Tensipine MR
Nifedipine treats vasospastic angina (chest pain caused by a spasm in a heart artery) and chronic stable angina (chest pain that comes on with effort). It can be used for chronic stable angina when other treatments, such as beta blockers or nitrates, haven't worked well enough or can't be tolerated.
Nifedipine extended-release tablets, including Procardia XL, are also used to treat high blood pressure. The nifedipine capsule label covers the angina uses only.

Nifedipine Is Linked to Lower Levels of 2 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Nifedipine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Taurine — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
