Teazle and Dicloxacillin Sodium

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Dicloxacillin Sodium and Teazle in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Dicloxacillin Sodium

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Dicloxacillin Sodium is filed under 5 classifications — including penicillin, antibiotic drugs, nephrotoxic drugs. Teazle has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being anticholinergic drugs (moderate) and cholinergic drugs (moderate) — and none of Dicloxacillin Sodium’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Dicloxacillin Sodium’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Teazle. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Dicloxacillin Sodium’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. 10 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Confusion Worth acting on
  • Seizures Worth acting on
  • A low platelet count Worth acting on
  • Kidney problems Worth acting on
  • Anemia Worth acting on

How to take them

Some Dicloxacillin Sodium Products Have a Food Rule — Teazle Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Dicloxacillin Sodium says to take it on an empty stomach. Most supplements — Teazle included — are taken with a meal, so the easy mistake is swallowing both together at breakfast. Where that rule applies, keep Dicloxacillin Sodium on its own and move Teazle to a meal later in the day.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Dicloxacillin Sodium products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

Patients weighing less than 40 kg (88 lbs) DRUG ADULTS CHILDREN Mild to Moderate Severe Mild to Moderate Severe Dicloxacillin 125 mg every 6 hours 250 mg every 6 hours 12.5 mg/kg/day 1 in equally divided doses every 6 hours 25 mg/kg/day 1 in equally divided doses every 6 hours Dicloxacillin is best absorbed when taken on an empty stomach, and should be administered at least 1 hour before or 2 hour

A food rule is not an interaction — it is about how much of the medicine you absorb. The directions that came with your own product, and your pharmacist, outrank anything on this page.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Dicloxacillin Sodium

This page covers Teazle only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Dicloxacillin Sodium page lists 56 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Asarabacca (major), Siberian Cocklebur (major), Aristolochia (moderate) and Bacillus Coagulans (moderate).

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Dicloxacillin Sodium page

“The riskiest pairing on this page is Siberian cocklebur with dicloxacillin (Dynapen), an antibiotic for staph skin and soft tissue infections. Both can stress the kidneys, and that additive strain accounts for one of the three major ratings among 56 supplements here, enough that this list warrants real care.”

About Teazle

What is Teazle?

Teazle
  • Lyme disease (folk use)
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
  • Skin conditions such as psoriasis
  • Wound healing

Teazle (Dipsacus fullonum) is a spiky plant used in traditional and folk medicine, most notably as a tincture marketed for Lyme disease and for joint pain and skin problems. There is very little high-quality human research to support any of these uses, so its benefits remain unproven. Talk with a pharmacist or doctor before trying it, and never use it to replace standard treatment for serious infections like Lyme disease.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Teazle is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Teazle record says about it on its own.

Teazle: dosing

There is no established or standardized dose for teazle. Dosing in folk traditions varies widely, and products such as tinctures and capsules differ in strength. If you choose to try a teazle product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed them.

About Dicloxacillin

What Is Dicloxacillin Used For?

Brand names: Dynapen, Pathocil, Dycill, Pathocil Injection

Dicloxacillin sodium capsules treat infections caused by staphylococci (staph bacteria) that make penicillinase and are shown to be susceptible to the drug. Penicillinase is an enzyme that destroys many penicillins.

Your prescriber may start it before lab results are back if a resistant staph infection is suspected. It should not be used for infections caused by bacteria that regular penicillin G can treat. If tests show a different type of bacteria, it should be stopped.
