Gabapentin enacarbil falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Theacrine interacts with.

Theoretically, theacrine might alter the effects of CNS depressants.
Animal research shows that low doses of theacrine have sedating effects, whereas high doses might have stimulant effects. Depending on the dose of theacrine used, it might increase or decrease the effects of CNS depressants. However, these effects have not yet been reported in humans.

Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil) is a medicine that calms the nervous system, which is why it can ease restless legs and nerve pain after shingles. The concern here is mostly on paper. In animal studies, theacrine had a calming effect at low doses but a more stimulating, caffeine-like effect at higher doses. So in theory it could either add to or push against the way Horizant slows things down. This has not actually been shown in people.

What that means for you day to day: pay attention to how you feel. If you notice extra drowsiness, dizziness, or grogginess, or on the flip side feel jittery and less helped by your medicine, that is worth mentioning. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing these, and don't change your Horizant on your own.

About Gabapentin

What Is Gabapentin Used For?

Brand name: Horizant

Gabapentin (brands include Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, Gralise, and Horizant) is primarily used to manage postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) — the nerve pain that lingers after a shingles outbreak — in adults. Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, and gabapentin capsules, tablets, and oral solution are also used as add-on therapy for partial onset seizures (a type of epilepsy) in adults and children aged 3 and older.

Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil extended-release tablet) has two specific approvals: treatment of moderate-to-severe primary restless legs syndrome (RLS) in adults, and management of postherpetic neuralgia in adults. Horizant is not recommended for people who need to sleep during the day and stay awake at night. Gralise is approved only for postherpetic neuralgia and cannot be substituted for other gabapentin products due to its different release profile.
