Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here's the good news first: the interaction on file is really about oral medicines and how they affect thyroid hormone absorption in your gut. Butorphanol (Stadol) is given as an injection or nasal spray, not a swallowed pill, so it isn't sitting in your stomach competing with thyroid extract for absorption. That makes a meaningful absorption clash unlikely here.

That said, do keep one practical thing in mind. If your thyroid extract pushes your thyroid levels too high, you may feel jittery, have a racing heart, or trouble sleeping, and a pain medicine like butorphanol can add drowsiness or dizziness on its own. Because over-the-counter thyroid extract is unpredictable, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

What Is Butorphanol Injection Used For?

Brand name: Stadol

Butorphanol Tartrate Injection is used to manage pain severe enough to require an opioid when other treatments are not adequate. It is also used as a preoperative or pre-anesthetic medication and as a supplement to balanced anesthesia during surgical procedures.

Butorphanol Tartrate Injection is also indicated for relief of pain during labor in patients at full term in early labor. Because of serious risks including addiction, misuse, and overdose, it is reserved for situations where alternative treatments are ineffective or not tolerated.
