Here's the simple version: both GHB and butorphanol (Stadol) calm down your central nervous system, and stacking two depressants together piles on that effect. Butorphanol is an opioid pain reliever, so on its own it can already make you drowsy, dizzy, and slow your breathing. Add GHB, which is a powerful sedative in its own right, and you raise the real risk of dangerously slow or shallow breathing, deep sedation, or even unconsciousness.

I want to be honest that this specific pairing is backed mostly by anecdotal reports, but the concern is serious because both drugs hit the same brakes in the brain. Non-prescription GHB is never safe to use anyway. Please don't combine these, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist before mixing butorphanol with anything sedating.

GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) is a powerful central nervous system depressant that is NOT a safe dietary supplement. In the U.S. it is a controlled substance, and only a tightly regulated prescription form (sodium oxybate) is legal for narcolepsy. Non-prescription GHB can cause coma, breathing failure, and death, and it is also a known 'date-rape' drug — it should not be taken outside of medical supervision.

What Is Butorphanol Injection Used For?

Brand name: Stadol

Butorphanol Tartrate Injection is used to manage pain severe enough to require an opioid when other treatments are not adequate. It is also used as a preoperative or pre-anesthetic medication and as a supplement to balanced anesthesia during surgical procedures.

Butorphanol Tartrate Injection is also indicated for relief of pain during labor in patients at full term in early labor. Because of serious risks including addiction, misuse, and overdose, it is reserved for situations where alternative treatments are ineffective or not tolerated.
