Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Enalapril Maleate
Enalapril Maleate falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here the concern runs the other way from what you might expect. It is not that your enalapril (Vasotec) changes the thyroid extract, but that taking other oral medicines and the thyroid product close together can block how well the thyroid hormone is absorbed. When you swallow them at the same time, they can mingle in your stomach and the thyroid hormone may not get taken up as fully.
Enalapril itself is a fairly forgiving blood pressure medicine and does not seem to be directly altered by thyroid extract. A simple fix is spacing them out, often taking the thyroid product on an empty stomach and your enalapril later. Since these supplements are not standardized, please run your routine by your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Enalapril Maleate page
“Potassium is the supplement I worry about first with enalapril maleate (Vasotec, Epaned). This ACE inhibitor, used for high blood pressure and heart failure, already makes the body hold onto potassium, so adding more can raise blood levels too far, a problem called hyperkalemia.”

About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.
About Enalapril
What Is Enalapril Used For?
Brand names: Vasotec, Epaned
Enalapril treats high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
It also treats symptomatic heart failure. It is used for asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction (a weak pumping chamber of the heart without symptoms) to slow the development of overt heart failure and reduce hospital stays for heart failure. Enalapril oral solution (including Epaned) is labeled for high blood pressure in adults and children older than one month.
