Risperidone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Tinospora Cordifolia interacts with.

Theoretically, Tinospora cordifolia might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that Tinospora cordifolia extract inhibits CYP2D6 at high concentrations. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to clear risperidone. In test-tube studies, Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia) seems to slow that enzyme down when used at high concentrations. If it did the same thing in people, risperidone could build up a bit and its effects could feel stronger. That might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, low blood pressure when you stand up, or restlessness.

I want to be honest about the strength here, though. This is only a lab finding, and it has not been seen in actual patients, so consider it more of a theoretical heads-up than a proven problem. Giloy has also been linked to liver injury, which is its own reason to be careful. Before combining them, please run it by your pharmacist or prescriber.

What Is Risperidone Used For?

Brand names: Risperdal, Perseris

Risperidone is prescribed for three main conditions: schizophrenia (a disorder affecting how a person thinks, feels, and perceives reality), acute manic or mixed episodes in Bipolar I Disorder, and irritability associated with autistic disorder — including aggression, self-injury, temper tantrums, and rapid mood swings.

For bipolar mania, it can be used alone or alongside lithium or valproate. It is approved for use in both adults and certain age groups of children and adolescents, depending on the condition being treated.
