Why this applies to Riluzole

Riluzole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Tinospora Cordifolia interacts with.

Theoretically, Tinospora cordifolia might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro research shows that Tinospora cordifolia extract inhibits CYP1A2 at high concentrations. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for riluzole: your body clears this medicine mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. In test-tube studies, Tinospora cordifolia (Giloy/Guduchi) seems to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, riluzole could build up a bit higher than usual, which might mean more of its typical side effects, things like dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, weakness, or feeling lightheaded.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's only based on lab data at high concentrations and has not been seen in actual people, so it's mostly theoretical. On top of that, Giloy itself has been linked to liver injury, and riluzole already needs liver monitoring, so I'd run this combo past your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

Riluzole is approved to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) — the progressive neurological disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. This indication is shared across all available riluzole products, including tablets (Rilutek, riluzole), the dissolving oral film (Exservan), and the oral suspension (Tiglutik).

Tiglutik oral suspension is notable in that it can also be given through a PEG-tube (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube) for patients who have difficulty swallowing.
