Timolol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Tinospora Cordifolia interacts with.

Theoretically, Tinospora cordifolia might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that Tinospora cordifolia extract inhibits CYP2D6 at high concentrations. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your body clears timolol largely through a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. In lab (test tube) studies, Tinospora cordifolia (Giloy) appears to slow that same enzyme down when present at high concentrations. If that were to happen in a person, timolol could clear more slowly and build up a bit, which might nudge its effects stronger than expected.

For timolol, that could mean a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure, dizziness, or feeling unusually tired. The honest part: this is only a theoretical concern based on lab work, and it has not been reported in real people. Still, if you take timolol and want to try Giloy, run it past your pharmacist or doctor first, especially since this supplement has also been linked to liver issues.

What Is Timolol Used For?

Brand names: Blocadren, Timol, Timoptic

Timolol is available in ophthalmic (eye) forms and as an oral tablet, and each form has its own approved uses. Ophthalmic formulations — including Betimol, Istalol, Timolol GFS, Timolol hemihydrate, Timolol Maleate eye drops, and Timolol Maleate Ophthalmic Gel Forming Solution — are used to lower elevated intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) in people with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma.

Timolol Maleate tablets are used orally for three separate conditions: treating high blood pressure (alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines), reducing the risk of death and repeat heart attack in people who have survived a heart attack and are clinically stable, and preventing migraine headaches.
