Tinospora Cordifolia + Indomethacin
Indomethacin brand names: Indocin, Indocin SR, Indo-Lemmon, Indomethagan, Tivorbex.
Tinospora Cordifolia has a moderate interaction with Indomethacin. Theoretically, Tinospora cordifolia might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Indomethacin
Indomethacin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Tinospora Cordifolia interacts with.
In vitro research shows that Tinospora cordifolia extract inhibits CYP2C9. Animal research shows that Tinospora cordifolia extract 400 mg/kg twice daily for 14 days reduces the clearance and increases plasma levels of glyburide, a CYP2C9 substrate. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to break down indomethacin (Indocin) and clear it out. In lab tests, Tinospora cordifolia (Giloy) appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in people, indomethacin could build up a bit, which may mean stronger effects and a higher chance of the usual side effects, like stomach upset, heartburn, nausea, headache, or, with bigger or longer use, irritation or bleeding in the gut.
I want to keep this in perspective, though. This concern comes only from test-tube and animal studies, not from real patients, so it's theoretical. Food or tea amounts are unlikely to matter much. Still, if you're using concentrated Giloy supplements with indomethacin, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

About Tinospora Cordifolia
What is Tinospora Cordifolia?
- Immune support
- Fever
- Blood sugar support
- General wellness and 'rejuvenation'
- Allergic rhinitis
- Inflammation
Tinospora cordifolia, known as Guduchi or Giloy in Ayurvedic medicine, is a climbing plant traditionally used to support immunity and treat fevers. Early laboratory and small human studies suggest possible immune and blood sugar effects, but high-quality evidence is limited, and there have been reports of liver injury. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.
About Indomethacin
What Is Indomethacin Used For?
Brand names: Indocin, Indocin SR, Indo-Lemmon, Indomethagan, Tivorbex
Indocin oral suspension and Indocin suppositories are used for moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis (including acute flares), moderate to severe ankylosing spondylitis, and moderate to severe osteoarthritis. They are also used for acute painful shoulder (bursitis and/or tendinitis) and acute gouty arthritis.
Indomethacin for Injection is different. It is given intravenously to close a hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus (a blood vessel near the heart that stays open) in premature infants weighing 500 to 1,750 g, when 48 hours of usual medical management has not worked.
