Here's the simple version: tragacanth is mostly a gel-forming fiber. When you swallow it, it can grab onto whatever else is in your stomach. With a combo pill like Fioricet with Codeine, that thick gel could in theory slow down or change how much of the acetaminophen, butalbital, caffeine, and codeine actually gets absorbed. The honest truth is this is only a theoretical concern based on how the fiber behaves, not something proven in studies, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Still, if your absorption dipped, you might notice less pain or headache relief than usual. To stay on the safe side, just take your medication first and wait about 30 to 60 minutes before any tragacanth supplement. Food amounts in things like jellies are unlikely to matter. When in doubt, your pharmacist can help you space them out.
