Ceftibuten falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Tragacanth interacts with.

Theoretically, tragacanth might alter absorption of oral drugs.
Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the simple version: tragacanth is a gummy fiber that swells into a thick gel in your stomach. When you swallow it close to a pill, that gel can sometimes grab onto the medicine and slow or change how much of it your body absorbs. With Ceftibuten, an oral antibiotic you take to clear an infection, the worry is that you might absorb a little less of the dose. If your blood levels run low, the antibiotic may not knock out the bacteria as well, which could mean a slower recovery.

Keep in mind this is theoretical, based on how the fiber behaves rather than on real studies with Ceftibuten, so it may not amount to much. To play it safe, take your Ceftibuten first and wait 30 to 60 minutes before any tragacanth. If you're unsure, your pharmacist can help you space them out.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut.
