Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the simple version with danazol: tragacanth is a gummy fiber that swells into a thick gel in your stomach. When you swallow a pill alongside that gel, the gel can sometimes grab onto the medicine and slow or reduce how much your body absorbs. With danazol, less getting absorbed could mean it works less well for whatever you're treating, whether that's endometriosis pain, fibrocystic breast tenderness, or preventing hereditary angioedema swelling attacks.

I want to be straight with you though: this is a theoretical concern based on how fiber behaves, not on strong studies with danazol itself. Food amounts of tragacanth are unlikely to cause trouble. If you take a concentrated supplement, a smart habit is to separate them, taking the tragacanth 30 to 60 minutes after your danazol. Run it by your pharmacist to be sure.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. There is very little solid human research showing it treats any specific condition. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but anyone with allergies or who is pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Danazol Used For?

Brand names: Cyclomen, Danocrine

Danazol capsules are used to treat endometriosis — a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, causing pain and sometimes infertility. It works by suppressing the hormonal cycle that drives this abnormal tissue growth.

Danazol capsules are also used to prevent attacks of hereditary angioedema — a genetic condition that causes episodes of severe swelling in the skin, abdomen, face, and airway. All types of attacks (cutaneous, abdominal, and laryngeal) can be prevented with danazol.
