Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the gist with entrectinib (Rozlytrek) and tragacanth. Tragacanth is a gummy fiber that swells into a thick gel in your stomach. That gel can grab onto a pill you swallow and change how much of it your body actually absorbs. With entrectinib, that could mean a little less getting into your bloodstream (less benefit against the cancer) or, in theory, a little more (more side effects like dizziness, tiredness, swelling, or constipation). We honestly can't predict the exact direction.

This is a theoretical concern based on how the gum behaves, not on real studies with entrectinib, so don't panic. A simple fix is timing: take your entrectinib first, then wait at least 30 to 60 minutes before any tragacanth. Because this is a serious cancer medicine, please run it by your oncologist or pharmacist before mixing the two.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. There is very little solid human research showing it treats any specific condition. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but anyone with allergies or who is pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Entrectinib Used For?

Brand name: Rozlytrek

Rozlytrek is used to treat adult patients with ROS1-positive metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — a type of lung cancer where the ROS1 gene is rearranged — as confirmed by an FDA-approved test.

Rozlytrek is also approved for adult and pediatric patients older than 1 month with solid tumors that have an NTRK gene fusion (a specific genetic alteration), detected by an FDA-approved test, that have spread or cannot be removed without causing serious harm, and have worsened after prior treatment or have no good treatment alternatives. This NTRK indication was granted accelerated approval based on tumor response rates; continued approval may depend on results from confirmatory trials.
