Here's the gist with ferric citrate (Auryxia) and tragacanth. Tragacanth is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and that gel can physically trap things in your stomach and gut. Since ferric citrate works right there in the digestive tract (it grabs onto phosphorus from your food, or delivers iron), having a slippery gel in the mix could in theory blunt how well it does its job. That might mean less phosphate binding or weaker iron absorption.

Honestly, this is a theoretical concern based on how fiber behaves, not something proven in studies, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. To stay safe, just space them out by taking tragacanth about 30 to 60 minutes after your ferric citrate dose. Run it by your pharmacist if you're unsure.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. What Is Ferric Citrate Used For?

Brand name: Auryxia

Ferric citrate tablets — sold as Auryxia and under the generic name Ferric Citrate — are approved for two related uses in adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

For patients on dialysis, they work as a phosphate binder to control high phosphorus (hyperphosphatemia) levels in the blood. For patients with CKD who are not on dialysis, they serve as an iron replacement to treat iron deficiency anemia.
