Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the basic idea: tragacanth is a gel-forming fiber. When you swallow it, that thick gel can grab onto pills in your stomach and gut, which might change how much of a medicine gets absorbed. With Mavacamten (Camzyos), this is purely a theoretical concern based on how fiber gums behave, not something proven in studies, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Still, Mavacamten is a drug where the dose really matters, since too much can weaken your heart's pumping and cause symptoms like shortness of breath, swelling, or dizziness, and too little may not control your condition well. To play it safe, separate them: take your Mavacamten first, then wait at least 30 to 60 minutes before the tragacanth. And since this medicine is closely monitored, please run any supplement past your pharmacist or cardiologist before adding it.

“Grapefruit is the first thing I would set aside for anyone taking mavacamten (Camzyos), the medicine for obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It blocks CYP3A4, the liver enzyme that clears mavacamten, and too much of this drug can weaken the heart's pumping strength, the very problem careful dosing exists to prevent.”
