Here's the gist with pravastatin and tragacanth. Tragacanth is a plant gum that swells into a thick gel when it meets fluid in your stomach and gut. The concern is purely physical, not about your liver enzymes: that gel could trap or slow down a pill sitting alongside it, which might change how much pravastatin your body actually absorbs. In theory it could nudge absorption down (less cholesterol-lowering benefit) or, less commonly, up.

I want to be honest that this is theoretical, based on how the fiber behaves rather than real patient reports, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. To be safe, simply space them out, taking tragacanth about 30 to 60 minutes after your pravastatin. If you use it regularly, mention it to your pharmacist.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. There is very little solid human research showing it treats any specific condition. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but anyone with allergies or who is pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Pravastatin Used For?

Brand name: Pravachol

Pravastatin Sodium tablets are used alongside a cholesterol-lowering diet to treat high LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol), high triglycerides (blood fats), and abnormal cholesterol levels. They are approved for adults and for children ages 8 and older with a hereditary form of high cholesterol called heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH).

In people without known heart disease, pravastatin helps reduce the risk of heart attack and cardiovascular death. In people who already have coronary heart disease (CHD), it is used to reduce the risk of heart attack, coronary death, stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), and procedures to restore blood flow to the heart — and to slow the buildup of plaque in the arteries.
