Vitamin B6 + Brexpiprazole

Brexpiprazole brand name: Rexulti.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Vitamin B6 and Brexpiprazole in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Vitamin B6 and Brexpiprazole

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Brexpiprazole and Vitamin B6 in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Brexpiprazole

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Brexpiprazole is filed under 8 classifications — including dopamine agonists, antipsychotic drugs, serotonergic drugs. Vitamin B6 has documented interactions with 5 drug classes — the most serious being amiodarone (cordarone) (moderate), antihypertensive drugs (moderate) and phenobarbital (luminal) (moderate) — and none of Brexpiprazole’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Vitamin B6 and Brexpiprazole May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do.

Reported for Vitamin B6 but not commonly for Brexpiprazole: an allergic reaction, reduced appetite, sun sensitivity and numbness or tingling.

Effects for Brexpiprazole come from the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of its FDA label; effects for Vitamin B6 come from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record, quoted above. Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 16,505 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Brexpiprazole that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Wording is matched across sources by our own clinical vocabulary, so treat this as a prompt to pay attention, not a diagnosis.

Vitamin B6 in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Pregnancy Likely Safe

When used orally and appropriately. A special sustained-release product providing vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) 75 mg daily is FDA-approved for use in pregnancy. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is also considered a first-line treatment for nausea and vomiting in pregnancy by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. However, it should not be used long-term or without medical supervision and close monitoring. The tolerable upper intake level (UL) refers to vitamin B6 in the form of pyridoxine and is 80 mg daily for those aged 14-18 years and 100 mg daily for 19 years and older.

Pregnancy Possibly Unsafe

When used orally in excessive doses. There is some concern that high-dose maternal vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) can cause neonatal seizures.

Lactation Likely Safe

When used orally in doses not exceeding the tolerable upper intake level (UL) of vitamin B6 in the form of pyridoxine 80 mg daily for those aged 14-18 years and 100 mg daily for those 19 years and older. The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) in lactating women is 2 mg daily. There is insufficient reliable information available about the safety of vitamin B6 when used in higher doses in breast-feeding women.

What Brexpiprazole Is Prescribed For, and What Vitamin B6 Has Been Studied For

These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Brexpiprazole is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Vitamin B6 is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.

Brexpiprazole is prescribed for: Brexpiprazole tablets are approved for two uses in adults: as an add-on (adjunctive) treatment alongside antidepressants for major depressive disorder (MDD), and as a treatment for schizophrenia. These uses apply to both the generic brexpiprazole tablets and Rexulti. Rexulti has one additional approved use: treating agitation associated with dementia due to Alzheimer's disease in adults. Rexulti is also approved for schizophrenia in adolescents ages 13 and older.

Note that Rexulti is not approved for dementia-related psychosis without agitation from Alzheimer's disease, and it is not meant to be used on an as-needed basis for Alzheimer's-related agitation.

Vitamin B6 has been studied for:

  • Schizophrenia studied, not established Vitamin B6 has been studied for this. Natural Medicines rates the evidence: Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate Read what the research shows

    Vitamin B6 for schizophrenia

It is unclear if oral vitamin B6 is beneficial for patients with treatment-resistant schizophrenia.

  • Depression studied, not established Vitamin B6 has been studied for this. Natural Medicines rates the evidence: Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate Read what the research shows

    Vitamin B6 for depression

It is unclear if oral vitamin B6 reduces the risk of developing depression or improves symptoms of depression.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Brexpiprazole on your own; if you are taking Vitamin B6 for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

About Vitamin B6

What is Vitamin B6?

  • Morning sickness in pregnancy
  • Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
  • Preventing or treating B6 deficiency
  • Nerve health and metabolism support
  • Nausea

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is an essential water-soluble vitamin that your body needs for metabolism, brain function, and making red blood cells. It is best known for helping with pregnancy-related nausea and may help some people with PMS, but taking very high doses for long periods can cause nerve damage. Get most of your B6 from food, and check with a pharmacist or doctor before taking high-dose supplements.

Tablets, capsules, softgels, liquid drops, part of B-complex and multivitamins

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Vitamin B6 is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Vitamin B6 record says about it on its own.

Vitamin B6: dosing

There is no single "best" supplement dose for everyone, and the right amount depends on your age, health, and the reason you are taking it. Health authorities set recommended daily intakes and an upper limit to help avoid nerve-related side effects from too much. The safest approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed the upper limit unless a healthcare provider tells you to. Avoid taking high-dose B6 for long periods on your own.If you take a B-complex or multivitamin, check how much B6 it already contains so you do not accidentally take too much from multiple products.

Taking Vitamin B6 and Brexpiprazole Together: Common Questions

Is it safe to take Vitamin B6 with Brexpiprazole?
We do not list a known interaction between Vitamin B6 and Brexpiprazole. That does not guarantee the combination is risk-free, so confirm with your pharmacist or doctor — especially if you take other medications or have a health condition.
Do Vitamin B6 and Brexpiprazole have any of the same side effects?
Yes — our sources link each of them separately to 5 of the same effects. That is not an interaction: neither changes how your body handles the other. It does mean that if one of those effects turns up, it can be harder to tell which one is behind it. They are listed on this page with the source behind each.
Are Vitamin B6 and Brexpiprazole used for the same thing?
They overlap in purpose, which usually means the real question is whether you need both rather than whether they are safe together. This page lists the shared uses and how strong the evidence is for Vitamin B6 in each. That is a conversation for your prescriber, especially if Brexpiprazole is being adjusted to a target.
How was the Vitamin B6 and Brexpiprazole combination checked?
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes. Brexpiprazole is filed under 8 classifications, and Vitamin B6 has documented interactions with 5 drug classes — none of Brexpiprazole's classifications are among them. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded in our dataset, so this describes how the check was run rather than guaranteeing safety.
Does Vitamin B6 interact with any other medications?
Yes. Vitamin B6 has 210 documented drug interactions in our database — Brexpiprazole is simply not one of them. If you take anything else, it is worth checking each one; they are all listed on this page.
Does Brexpiprazole interact with any supplements?
Yes. Brexpiprazole has documented interactions with 177 supplements in our database — Vitamin B6 is not one of them. The Brexpiprazole interaction page linked on this page lists every one, ranked by severity.
