Vitamin B6 + Gabapentin
Gabapentin brand names: Neurontin, Gralise.
We found no known interaction between Vitamin B6 and Gabapentin in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Vitamin B6 and Gabapentin
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Gabapentin and Vitamin B6 in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.
Vitamin B6 safety at a glance
Pregnancy & breastfeeding ratings are from Natural Medicines (Therapeutic Research Center) — the full detail is in the Special populations card below. Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.
Why No Interaction Is Listed for Gabapentin
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Gabapentin is filed under 4 classifications — including anticonvulsants, cns depressants, oral drugs. Vitamin B6 has documented interactions with 5 drug classes — the most serious being amiodarone (cordarone) (moderate), antihypertensive drugs (moderate) and phenobarbital (luminal) (moderate) — and none of Gabapentin’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Vitamin B6 Does Interact With Other Medications
Vitamin B6 has 205 moderate, 5 minor known drug interactions in our database — Gabapentin isn’t one of them. If you take anything else, check it against the full list below.

Vitamin B6 in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
When used orally and appropriately. A special sustained-release product providing vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) 75 mg daily is FDA-approved for use in pregnancy. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is also considered a first-line treatment for nausea and vomiting in pregnancy by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. However, it should not be used long-term or without medical supervision and close monitoring. The tolerable upper intake level (UL) refers to vitamin B6 in the form of pyridoxine and is 80 mg daily for those aged 14-18 years and 100 mg daily for 19 years and older.
When used orally in excessive doses. There is some concern that high-dose maternal vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) can cause neonatal seizures.
When used orally in doses not exceeding the tolerable upper intake level (UL) of vitamin B6 in the form of pyridoxine 80 mg daily for those aged 14-18 years and 100 mg daily for those 19 years and older. The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) in lactating women is 2 mg daily. There is insufficient reliable information available about the safety of vitamin B6 when used in higher doses in breast-feeding women.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Gabapentin page
“Gabapentin (Neurontin, Gralise) calms overactive nerves, which means it already slows your nervous system down, and that is exactly what 78 of the 106 supplements on this list also do. So the dominant risk here is sedation stacked on sedation, extra drowsiness at best and dangerously slowed breathing at worst, and with seven entries ra…”

About Vitamin B6
What is Vitamin B6?
- Morning sickness in pregnancy
- Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
- Preventing or treating B6 deficiency
- Nerve health and metabolism support
- Nausea
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is an essential water-soluble vitamin that your body needs for metabolism, brain function, and making red blood cells. It is best known for helping with pregnancy-related nausea and may help some people with PMS, but taking very high doses for long periods can cause nerve damage. Get most of your B6 from food, and check with a pharmacist or doctor before taking high-dose supplements.
Tablets, capsules, softgels, liquid drops, part of B-complex and multivitamins
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Vitamin B6 is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Vitamin B6 record says about it on its own.
Vitamin B6: dosing
There is no single "best" supplement dose for everyone, and the right amount depends on your age, health, and the reason you are taking it. Health authorities set recommended daily intakes and an upper limit to help avoid nerve-related side effects from too much. The safest approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed the upper limit unless a healthcare provider tells you to. Avoid taking high-dose B6 for long periods on your own.If you take a B-complex or multivitamin, check how much B6 it already contains so you do not accidentally take too much from multiple products.

About Gabapentin
What Is Gabapentin Used For?
Brand names: Neurontin, Gralise
Gabapentin (brands include Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, Gralise, and Horizant) is primarily used to manage postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) — the nerve pain that lingers after a shingles outbreak — in adults. Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, and gabapentin capsules, tablets, and oral solution are also used as add-on therapy for partial onset seizures (a type of epilepsy) in adults and children aged 3 and older.
Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil extended-release tablet) has two specific approvals: treatment of moderate-to-severe primary restless legs syndrome (RLS) in adults, and management of postherpetic neuralgia in adults. Horizant is not recommended for people who need to sleep during the day and stay awake at night. Gralise is approved only for postherpetic neuralgia and cannot be substituted for other gabapentin products due to its different release profile.
Most-Reported Side Effects for Gabapentin
From FAERS, the FDA’s public side-effect reporting system (361,481 reports, all brands). Reports are voluntary and are not proof the drug caused the effect.

Gabapentin Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Gabapentin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Vitamin B6 — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
