Drug & supplement interaction

Wheatgrass + Carbidopa

Carbidopa brand name: Lodosyn.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Wheatgrass and Carbidopa in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Wheatgrass and Carbidopa

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Carbidopa and Wheatgrass in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Wheatgrass safety at a glance

Wheatgrass overall Use caution Generally well tolerated as a food, but quality and contamination concerns mean caution is wise.
Pregnancy Avoid Safety is not established, and raw products may carry contamination risk, so avoid unless cleared by your doctor.
Breastfeeding Avoid There is not enough safety information, so avoid unless your doctor approves.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Carbidopa

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Carbidopa is filed under 3 classifications — including oral drugs. Wheatgrass has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) and cytochrome p450 1a2 (cyp1a2) substrates (moderate) — and none of Carbidopa’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Wheatgrass and Carbidopa May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do. One of them is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

About Wheatgrass

What is Wheatgrass?

Wheatgrass
  • General nutrition support
  • Digestive health
  • Antioxidant support
  • Energy and wellness
  • Arthritis symptoms
  • Detox or cleansing routines

Wheatgrass is the young grass of the wheat plant, taken as a juice or powder, and is mainly used as a concentrated source of vitamins and plant nutrients. Solid scientific evidence for most health claims is limited, and it is best viewed as a nutritional add-on rather than a treatment. It is generally well tolerated, but people with celiac disease, wheat allergy, or who are pregnant should be cautious and check with a healthcare provider.

Triticum aestivum · Poaceae · Young grass (leaves/shoots) of the wheat plant · Fresh juice, powder, tablets, capsules, and added to smoothies or health drinks

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Wheatgrass is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Wheatgrass record says about it on its own.

Wheatgrass: dosing

There is no official or standardized dose for wheatgrass. Amounts vary widely between fresh juice, powder, and tablets, so the right amount depends on the specific product. The safest approach is to follow the directions on the product label and start with a small amount to see how your body responds.

About Carbidopa

What Is Carbidopa Used For?

Brand name: Lodosyn

Carbidopa tablets — sold under the brand name Lodosyn and as generic carbidopa — are used together with levodopa or carbidopa-levodopa to manage symptoms of Parkinson's disease, postencephalitic parkinsonism, and symptomatic parkinsonism that can result from carbon monoxide or manganese poisoning. Carbidopa is never used alone; it always works as a partner to levodopa-based therapy.

Lodosyn is specifically used when a patient taking carbidopa-levodopa isn't getting enough daily carbidopa from that combination, or when a patient needs the two drugs individually titrated (adjusted) rather than taken as a fixed combination. Adding carbidopa helps reduce the nausea and vomiting that levodopa often causes and allows lower doses of levodopa to be used.
