Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Aspirin, Caffeine, Hydrocodone
Aspirin, Caffeine, Hydrocodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Zedoary interacts with.
In-vitro research shows that a methanol extract of zedoary strongly inhibits the CYP3A4 metabolism of the tyrosine kinase inhibitors lapatinib and sorafenib, and to a lesser extent, gefitinib.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for this combo pill (aspirin, caffeine, and hydrocodone). The hydrocodone part is handled in your liver by an enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, zedoary appears to slow that enzyme down. If that held true in the body, hydrocodone could build up a bit more than usual, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, nausea, or slowed breathing. The aspirin and caffeine pieces aren't really the concern here.
I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical concern based on lab research, not real cases in people. A pinch of zedoary as a spice almost certainly won't matter. Concentrated supplement doses are the bigger question mark. If you want to use it, run it past your pharmacist or doctor first.
