L-Glutamine is rated Effective for sickle cell disease and Possibly Effective for HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and critical illness from trauma. Beta-Alanine is rated Possibly Effective for athletic and physical performance; the evidence for age-related cognitive decline, COPD, cognitive function, and menopausal symptoms is not established enough to rate.

How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Glutamine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, though people with kidney or liver disease should only use it under medical supervision. The most common side effects from oral glutamine are belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, stomach pain, headache, nausea, and vomiting — most notable in clinical trials using very high doses (10–30 grams daily).
Dizziness and headache have been reported, and rare cases of mania or hypomania occurred in patients with bipolar disorder. Beta-Alanine is generally well tolerated but commonly causes a harmless tingling sensation (paresthesia) in the skin, usually starting on the scalp within 20 minutes and lasting about an hour — the stronger the dose, the more noticeable it is.
Long-term safety at high doses hasn't been studied. L-Glutamine is rated Likely Safe in pregnancy and lactation.
Beta-Alanine, however, lacks enough safety data; the facts advise against it during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
