What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Arjuna bark powder (Terminalia arjuna). Arjuna is a traditional Ayurvedic herb used historically to support heart and cardiovascular health.
There are no inactive fillers or other ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold shows insufficient reliable data to rate Arjuna for any of its traditional uses — obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or angina. That means studies either don't exist yet or aren't strong enough to confirm whether it actually works for these conditions.
If you're looking at this for heart or metabolic support, talk with your doctor about whether the evidence supports it for your specific situation.
How safe is it?
Some data gaps
Arjuna is generally well tolerated in short-term studies, but long-term safety data is thin and quality varies between products. The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to know whether it's safe for you or your baby at those times.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, nursing, or planning either.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check whether you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs — Arjuna may increase bleeding risk. Also double-check any medications your liver processes, including heart drugs, antidepressants, and statins.
If you take diabetes medications or the muscle relaxant chlorzoxazone or heartburn medication omeprazole, verify those too with your pharmacist.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.
Arjuna might appeal to you if you're interested in traditional Ayurvedic support for heart health, but the scientific evidence on whether it works is weak. More importantly, this herb interacts with a large number of medications by slowing how your body clears them — blood thinners, diabetes drugs, and many others.
Check your exact medications with our tool before you start, and run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Arjuna monograph & interactionsAjuna Chhal / Bark by Vedic Herbs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Vedic Herbs Ajuna Chhal / Bark is a single-ingredient product containing Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna), and it does interact with medications.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (Moderate severity). Lab research shows that Arjuna can slow down how your body breaks down these drugs, raising their levels in your blood and increasing your bleeding risk.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Arjuna also affects how your liver processes several other common medication types. It can increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6, CYP2C9, and CYP3A4 enzymes — meaning many heart medications, antidepressants, statins, and other drugs may stay in your system longer and work more strongly than intended.
Additionally, if you take diabetes medications, Arjuna may lower your blood sugar more than expected. Two specific drugs — chlorzoxazone (a muscle relaxant) and omeprazole (a heartburn medication) — have animal evidence of higher blood levels when combined with this product.
Altogether, these interactions span 922 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to verify your exact prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs before you start.

For each ingredient in Ajuna Chhal / Bark with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Arjuna
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of Terminalia arjuna with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs may increase the risk of bleeding in some patients.
In vitro, Terminalia arjuna bark extract inhibits platelet aggregation, decreases platelet activation, and shows antithrombotic properties.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of Terminalia bellirica or Terminalia chebula with antidiabetes drugs could affect blood sugar control and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal and in vitro research shows that Terminalia bellirica and Terminalia chebula fruit and seed extract have hypoglycemic effects.
Chlorzoxazone (Parafon Forte, Paraflex)
Theoretically, use of Terminalia chebula may increase the risk of adverse effects from chlorzoxazone.
Animal research shows that enteral administration of Terminalia chebula for 15 days prior to administration of chlorzoxazone increases blood levels of chlorzoxazone and decreases chlorzoxazone clearance. It is speculated that Terminalia chebula reduces the metabolism of chlorzoxazone by inhibiting cytochrome P450 2E1.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
Theoretically, use of Terminalia arjuna may increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Terminalia arjuna extract inhibits CYP2C9 enzymes and reduces CYP2C9 substrate metabolism.
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, use of Terminalia arjuna may increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Terminalia arjuna extract inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes and reduces CYP2D6 substrate metabolism.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, use of Terminalia arjuna may increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Terminalia arjuna extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes and reduces CYP3A4 substrate metabolism.
Omeprazole (Prilosec)
Theoretically, use of Terminalia chebula may increase the risk of adverse effects from omeprazole.
Animal research shows that enteral administration of Terminalia chebula for 15 days prior to administration of omeprazole increases blood levels of omeprazole and decreases omeprazole clearance. It is speculated that Terminalia chebula reduces the metabolism of omeprazole by inhibiting cytochrome P450 2C19.
