Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: burdock root in liquid form. Burdock is a plant root with a long history of use in herbal traditions.
The liquid also contains 50% grain alcohol and purified water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for burdock's effectiveness isn't established in the data we hold. The product is listed for acne, aging skin, breast cancer, common cold, and eczema, but each of these ratings insufficient reliable evidence to rate.
That means we don't have solid research backing its use for any of these purposes yet.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
When used as a food or for short-term use in healthy adults, burdock is generally well tolerated, though human safety data are limited. Allergic reactions, including contact dermatitis and anaphylaxis, are rare but documented.
One case of liver damage was reported in someone taking a multi-ingredient herbal detox tea that included burdock, though it's unclear if burdock was the culprit. Contact dermatitis has occurred with prolonged use of burdock root oil and burdock plasters, sometimes appearing up to a week after application.
Do not use medicinal amounts of burdock during pregnancy due to lack of safety data and possible effects on the uterus. There isn't enough safety information for medicinal use while breastfeeding, so avoid it during that time.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs — such as warfarin, clopidogrel, or aspirin for heart protection — check your exact medications with the tool on this page before starting burdock. The risk is theoretically Moderate, though no human bleeding cases have been reported.
