What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: coenzyme Q10 (also called Co-QH2), supplied at 100 mg per softgel capsule. Coenzyme Q10 is a compound your body makes naturally and uses to help cells produce energy and protect themselves from oxidative damage.
The softgel also contains inactive ingredients including D-limonene oil, caprylic and capric acids, and alpha lipoic acid.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence we have supports coenzyme Q10 for treating coenzyme Q10 deficiency, where it is likely effective. For fibromyalgia, migraine headache, congestive heart failure (CHF), and diabetic neuropathy, the evidence is possibly effective — meaning some research is promising, but more data is needed to be sure.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Coenzyme Q10 is generally well tolerated by most adults when used as directed. In clinical studies, no serious adverse effects have been reported.
The most common side effects are gastrointestinal — appetite suppression, diarrhea, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting — but these occur in less than 1% of patients. Headache, dizziness, insomnia, and skin itching have been reported rarely.
Taking your dose with food or dividing larger doses may help reduce stomach upset. There isn't enough safety data for use during pregnancy, so it's best to avoid unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Safety while breastfeeding has not been well studied — talk with your doctor before using this product if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check

Before you start, double-check with us if you take chemotherapy drugs (especially alkylating agents like cyclophosphamide), warfarin or other blood thinners, or blood pressure medications. These are the main drug types we have documented interactions for with coenzyme Q10.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Co-QH2 Ubiquinol may be worth considering if you have coenzyme Q10 deficiency or are exploring options for migraine, heart failure, or nerve pain. If you take warfarin, chemotherapy, or blood pressure medication, check with your pharmacist before starting — this product can affect how those drugs work.

Co-QH2 Ubiquinol 100 mg by Carlson Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Co-QH2 Ubiquinol 100 mg by Carlson contains coenzyme Q10, which interacts with a number of medications.
The most serious concern is with chemotherapy drugs called alkylating agents (such as cyclophosphamide). Coenzyme Q10 has antioxidant effects that may theoretically reduce how well these cancer drugs work by protecting tumor cells from the oxidative stress the drugs are meant to cause.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
A second Moderate concern is warfarin (Coumadin), a blood thinner. Coenzyme Q10 is chemically similar to vitamin K and may have blood-clotting effects that could decrease warfarin's ability to prevent clots.
Four cases of reduced warfarin effectiveness thought to be linked to coenzyme Q10 have been reported.
There is also a Minor interaction with blood pressure medications. Some research shows coenzyme Q10 can lower blood pressure, so taking it alongside antihypertensive drugs might add to their effect and lower your pressure more than intended.
Additionally, you'll want to run your exact medications through the checker on this page before you start.

For each ingredient in Co-QH2 Ubiquinol 100 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Co-QH2
Alkylating Agents
Coenzyme Q10 has antioxidant effects. Theoretically, this may reduce the activity of chemotherapy drugs that generate free radicals.
Theoretically, antioxidants such as coenzyme Q10 might protect tumor cells from chemotherapeutic agents that work by inducing oxidative stress, such as alkylating agents (e.g., cyclophosphamide) and radiation therapy. The clinical importance of this interaction is unknown.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Coenzyme Q10 is chemically similar to menaquinone and might have vitamin K-like procoagulant effects, which could decrease the effects of warfarin.
Concomitant use of coenzyme Q10 and warfarin might reduce the anticoagulant effects of warfarin. Four cases of decreased warfarin efficacy thought to be due to coenzyme Q10 have been reported. However, there is some preliminary clinical research that suggests coenzyme Q10 might not significantly decrease the effects of warfarin in patients who have a stable INR.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, coenzyme Q10 might have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
Some clinical research shows that coenzyme Q10 can significantly lower blood pressure, although other studies have shown conflicting results.
