by Nature's Way
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Complete Probiotic Pearls 1 Billion against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Complete Probiotic Pearls 1 Billion by Nature's Way
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains 6 ingredients, including four probiotic strains we can identify: Bifidobacterium longum BB536, Bifidobacterium breve M-16V, Lactobacillus acidophilus (marketed as Howaru), and three others listed as a proprietary blend or by genus name alone. These are live, beneficial bacteria meant to support your gut health.
The remaining ingredients are inactive—palm oil, fish gelatin, glycerin, sunflower lecithin, and pectin—which form the softgel capsule and help deliver the probiotics.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these specific strains is mixed. Lactobacillus acidophilus (Howaru) shows possibly effective evidence for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
The two Bifidobacterium strains we have data for—B. longum and B. breve—don't have established evidence for the conditions tested; most ratings are insufficient to say whether they work. We don't have effectiveness data for the other three strains in this product.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus strains in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy people. However, caution is advised if you're seriously ill, have a weakened immune system, or are critically ill—there are rare but documented cases of these bacteria causing bloodstream infections in those groups, particularly in preterm infants and people on life support.
Rare gastrointestinal side effects reported include abdominal discomfort, bloating, flatulence, constipation, and in one case a dry cough. For the Bifidobacterium strains, the safety data in pregnancy and lactation are either limited or labeled possibly safe; for Lactobacillus acidophilus, we have no pregnancy or lactation data on file.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a compromised immune system.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Antibiotic drugs are the main concern here—they're a Moderate interaction because they can kill the live probiotics in this product. Separate your antibiotic dose from this product by at least a few hours (ask your pharmacist for the exact timing).
No other medication interactions are documented for the strains we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic may be worth considering if you have irritable bowel syndrome, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, or certain bacterial infections, since Lactobacillus acidophilus has some evidence behind it for those uses. Be careful if you're on antibiotics—you'll need to space out when you take them.
If you're critically ill, immune-compromised, or pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your doctor first.
