What’s inside
Full disclosure
Gaia Herbs Cordyceps Mushroom is a single-ingredient supplement containing beta-glucan derived from Cordyceps, a type of medicinal fungus. It comes in capsule form with pullulan as an inactive ingredient (a capsule material and binder).
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The beta-glucan in this product is rated Likely Effective for two conditions: high cholesterol and triglycerides (dyslipidemia) and coronary heart disease. Those ratings are based on clinical research showing meaningful benefit.
For other uses of Cordyceps, evidence isn't established in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Beta-glucans from food sources are generally well tolerated. However, concentrated supplements lack robust safety data, so the evidence suggests using caution with supplement doses.
Topically applied beta-glucan creams have caused mild skin reactions and contact dermatitis in some people, though these were self-limiting. In one clinical trial, a patient receiving very high oral doses developed temporary liver enzyme elevations.
There isn't enough data on supplement doses during breastfeeding to know whether it's safe, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check your list of medications against blood pressure drugs (antihypertensives) and immunosuppressants. Both carry Moderate-severity interactions with beta-glucan.
The interaction checker on this page can help you search your exact drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This supplement may help with cholesterol and heart disease risk if the clinical findings hold for you, but it can lower blood pressure and may interfere with immune-suppressing medications. If you take any blood pressure drugs or medications that suppress your immune system, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Even if you don't, it's worth running your medications through the checker below to be sure.

Cordyceps Mushroom by Gaia Herbs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Gaia Herbs Cordyceps Mushroom contains beta-glucan, which is documented to interact with two medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) — beta-glucans may lower blood pressure further, raising the risk of dangerously low blood pressure (hypotension). This is a Moderate-severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Beta-glucans may also interfere with immunosuppressive medications (drugs that dampen immune function), which are Moderate-severity interactions. Because beta-glucans have immune-stimulating properties, they could work against these therapies.
The product also contains organic Cordyceps extracts, but we could not check those for interactions — the data shows they're a blend whose component ingredients aren't listed individually. Altogether, these interactions span 293 individual medications.
Use the interaction checker on this page to look up your exact prescriptions before you start.

organic Cordyceps extracts
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, cordyceps may increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
In vitro and animal research suggests that cordyceps extract inhibits platelet aggregation and function. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that cordyceps stimulates the immune system. However, limited clinical research suggests that taking cordyceps may lower the necessary therapeutic dose of the immunosuppressant cyclosporine, which suggests that cordyceps may have an immunosuppressive effect.
Testosterone
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps and testosterone might have additive effects.
Animal research suggests that cordyceps can increase testosterone levels. The clinical significance of this finding is unclear.
