HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Cortisol Manager Allergen Free by Integrative Therapeutics
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Partial disclosure
Cortisol Manager Allergen Free contains 6 active ingredients designed to address stress and sleep. L-theanine is an amino acid that may support cognitive function and relaxation.
Ashwagandha (Sensoril) is an adaptogenic herb traditionally used for stress and anxiety. Phosphatidylserine (Sharp-PS Green) is a compound thought to support brain health and cognitive decline related to aging.
The product also includes magnolia bark extract, epimedium extract, honokiol, and magnolol — ingredients in proprietary blends meant to reduce stress and lower cortisol. Inactive ingredients include hypromellose, cellulose, and silica, which are capsule materials and flow agents.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L-theanine is possibly effective for cognitive function; evidence for age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer's disease, and anxiety disorders is insufficient. Ashwagandha is possibly effective for insomnia, anxiety, stress, and generalized anxiety disorder, but evidence for bipolar disorder is insufficient.
Phosphatidylserine is possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease; evidence for ADHD, athletic performance, dementia, and general cognitive function is insufficient. The effectiveness of epimedium extract, honokiol, magnolia bark, and magnolol is not established in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-theanine is generally well tolerated for short-term use in healthy adults, though long-term safety isn't well studied. The most common side effects are headaches, drowsiness, and increased sleep duration.
Ashwagandha is generally well tolerated short-term, but quality and long-term safety data are limited. Common side effects are diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting at higher doses.
Rare serious effects include acute liver damage and hepatic failure. Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated, but long-term safety isn't fully established; common side effects are flatulence, nausea, headache, and insomnia (more likely at doses of 600 mg).
Regarding pregnancy: the facts advise avoiding L-theanine, ashwagandha, and phosphatidylserine during pregnancy due to insufficient safety data or traditional concern about miscarriage. For breastfeeding, there is not enough safety information for any of these three ingredients, so avoidance is recommended.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check any antihypertensive drugs (blood pressure medications), benzodiazepines or other CNS depressants (sedatives, sleep aids), antidiabetes drugs (blood sugar medications), thyroid hormones, anticholinergic drugs, cholinergic drugs, and hepatotoxic drugs (medications toxic to the liver). The product may lower blood pressure further, increase sedation, lower blood sugar, interfere with thyroid treatment, and — in rare cases — raise liver damage risk.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glancePartially disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help with stress and sleep for some people, but it carries Moderate interactions with blood pressure medications, sedatives, blood sugar drugs, thyroid hormones, and several other classes. If you take any prescription medication — especially for blood pressure, diabetes, sleep, anxiety, or thyroid function — check your exact drugs with the tool on this page before starting.

Cortisol Manager Allergen Free by Integrative Therapeutics Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Cortisol Manager Allergen Free by Integrative Therapeutics contains several ingredients with documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern is ashwagandha (Sensoril), which may increase the sedative effects of CNS depressants (drugs like benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and other sedatives) — a Moderate-severity interaction. Ashwagandha also carries Moderate-severity risks with antihypertensive drugs (blood pressure medications), antidiabetes drugs (blood sugar medications), thyroid hormone replacement, immunosuppressants, and drugs that are toxic to the liver.
Additionally, ashwagandha may reduce the effectiveness of anticholinergic medications and induce liver enzymes that speed up the breakdown of certain drugs (CYP1A2 substrates).
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
L-theanine, another active ingredient here, may lower blood pressure and potentiate antihypertensive drugs (Moderate severity). It carries a Minor-severity theoretical risk of additive sedative effects with CNS depressants and conflicting data on serotonin, though no cases of serotonin syndrome have been reported with L-theanine alone.
Phosphatidylserine (Sharp-PS Green) may interfere with anticholinergic drugs and potentiate cholinergic drugs (both Moderate severity) by raising acetylcholine levels.
We could not check epimedium extract, honokiol, or the proprietary blends' component ingredients — interaction data isn't on file for them. Altogether, these interactions span 1,446 individual medications.

Sensoril
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
There is preliminary clinical evidence suggesting that ashwagandha might lower blood glucose levels. Theoretically, ashwagandha might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that ashwagandha might lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Theoretically, ashwagandha might have additive effects when used with antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypotension.
Benzodiazepines
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha might increase the sedative effects of benzodiazepines.
There is preliminary evidence that ashwagandha might have an additive effect with diazepam (Valium) and clonazepam (Klonopin). This may also occur with other benzodiazepines.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha might increase the sedative effects of CNS depressants.
Ashwagandha seems to have sedative effects. Theoretically, this may potentiate the effects of barbiturates, other sedatives, and anxiolytics.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha with hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver damage.
Ashwagandha has been linked to cases of acute hepatitis, liver failure, hepatic encephalopathy, autoimmune hepatitis, the need for liver transplantation, and death due to liver failure.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha might decrease the effects of immunosuppressants.
Ashwagandha has demonstrated immunostimulant effects in humans. Animal research has shown that ashwagandha can attenuate the immunosuppression caused by cyclophosphamide.
Thyroid Hormone
Ashwagandha might increase the effects and adverse effects of thyroid hormone.
Concomitant use of ashwagandha with thyroid hormones may cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects. Preliminary clinical research and animal studies suggest that ashwagandha boosts thyroid hormone synthesis and secretion. In one clinical study, ashwagandha increased triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) levels by 41.5% and 19.6%, respectively, and reduced serum TSH levels by 17.4% from baseline in adults with subclinical hypothyroidism.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, ashwagandha might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that ashwagandha extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, ashwagandha might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that ashwagandha extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes.
Serotonergic Drugs
Some animal studies have reported that ashwagandha can enhance serotonergic transmission by altering certain serotonin (5-HT) receptors. However, there is no evidence to suggest that ashwagandha increases the risk of serotonin-related effects, and there have been no published case reports of serotonin syndrome when combined with other serotonergic drugs. Nevertheless, due to the lack of extensive studies on the matter and the fact that ashwagandha appears to affect serotonergic pathways, it would be prudent to exercise caution when combining it with drugs that affect serotonin. Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, horny goat weed might increase the effects and side effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, horny goat weed extract inhibits CYP3A4 and suppresses CYP3A4 mRNA expression. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Estrogens
Theoretically, concomitant use of horny goat weed with estrogens might increase their therapeutic and adverse effects.
In vitro evidence suggests that horny goat weed has estrogenic activity. In clinical research, horny goat weed has been shown to increase blood levels of estrogen in some females.
L-Theanine
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theanine might lower blood pressure, potentiating the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Animal research shows that theanine can lower blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive animals. Theoretically, concomitant use of theanine and antihypertensive drugs might potentiate the antihypertensive activity.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, theanine might have additive sedative effects when used in conjunction with CNS depressants. However, it is unclear if this concern is clinically relevant.
Theoretically, theanine may compete with glutamate and/or increase plasma gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels, which could cause CNS depression. In one clinical study, some subjects taking oral theanine reported drowsiness.
Serotonergic Drugs
Clinical studies regarding the effects of L-theanine on serotonin levels are conflicting. Some studies suggest it can increase serotonin levels in the brain while others report that it may decrease them. Nevertheless, there have been no reports of l-theanine being a causative agent in serotonergic-related side effects or serotonin syndrome.
Magnolia Bark Extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, magnolia might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that the chemicals magnolol and honokiol, isolated from magnolia bark, inhibit platelet aggregation that is experimentally induced by collagen and arachidonic acid. However, they do not inhibit platelet aggregation that is induced by adenosine diphosphate, platelet-activating factor, or thrombin. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of large doses of magnolia bark and CNS depressants might have additive effects.
In vitro and animal research shows that constituents extracted from magnolia bark, especially honokiol and magnolol, have sedative effects. These effects may be due to the inhibition of catecholamine release and modulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid-A (GABA-A) receptors.
Sharp-PS Green
Anticholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, phosphatidylserine might decrease the effectiveness anticholinergic drugs.
Phosphatidylserine is thought to increase acetylcholine levels, which could theoretically interfere with the activity of anticholinergic agents.
