by Enzymedica
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Digest Basic + Probiotics against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Digest Basic + Probiotics is a blend of 20 digestive and probiotic ingredients. The active ingredients are digestive enzymes—Amylase, Protease, Lipase, Lactase, Cellulase, Invertase, Glucoamylase, Alpha-Galactosidase, Xylanase, Pectinase, and Maltase—which help break down different components of food, plus a probiotic blend of Lactobacillus and Bacillus strains (live beneficial bacteria).
The formula also contains inactive ingredients: cellulose and water.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for effectiveness is mixed. Lactase, one of the enzymes, is effective for lactose intolerance.
L. acidophilus (one of the probiotics) is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, H. pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. Bacillus subtilis DE-111 is possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
For most of the other ingredients in this product—including Protease, Lipase, and the other probiotic strains—the evidence we hold is insufficient to say whether they work for their intended purposes.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The digestive enzymes and probiotics in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy adults. Protease may rarely cause allergic reactions or digestive upset and should be avoided during pregnancy.
Lipase is generally well tolerated but should be used under medical guidance if you have serious digestive conditions; pregnancy and breastfeeding safety aren't well studied. Lactase is likely safe during pregnancy.
The probiotic strains are generally well tolerated in healthy people, though those who are very ill or immunocompromised should be cautious. Very rare cases of bacterial infection (bacteremia, sepsis, endocarditis) have been reported with some Lactobacillus species, though these are thought to occur mainly in people with underlying health problems.
L. acidophilus in combination with other probiotics may cause mild gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, gas, or stomach discomfort in some people, though this is uncommon.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Antibiotic drugs are the main medication type to watch. Three probiotic strains in this product may lose effectiveness if taken at the same time as antibiotics, since the antibiotics can kill the live organisms.
Ask your pharmacist how to space them apart.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is designed for people looking to support digestion with enzymes and gut health with probiotics. If you take antibiotics, check with your pharmacist about timing—probiotics work best when taken away from antibiotics.
Anyone who is very ill, immunocompromised, or pregnant should talk to their doctor or pharmacist before starting. Run your exact medications through the checker on this page.
