HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Glutamine Amino Acid 500 mg by Higher Nature
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-glutamine at 500 mg per capsule. Glutamine is an amino acid — one of the building blocks your body uses to make protein.
The capsule itself is made from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, an inactive ingredient that holds the glutamine together.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
L-glutamine is effective for sickle cell disease. It's possibly effective for HIV/AIDS-related wasting, recovery after surgery, and critical illness from trauma.
For other uses, the evidence in our data isn't established.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-glutamine is generally well tolerated by healthy adults when taken orally. The most common side effects are belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, stomach pain, headache, nausea, and vomiting — usually seen at higher doses (10–30 grams daily or more).
A few cases of dizziness and, in people with bipolar disorder, mood changes (mania or hypomania) have been reported, but these are rare. If you have kidney or liver disease, use this supplement only under medical supervision.
There is not enough safety data in pregnancy or while breastfeeding; talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you in those situations.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take anticonvulsant medications (seizure drugs), double-check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this supplement — glutamine might theoretically reduce how well they work, though this hasn't been seen in patients yet.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-glutamine may help with sickle cell disease and possibly with muscle loss in HIV/AIDS, post-surgical recovery, or critical illness. If you take anticonvulsants, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.
Generally well tolerated, but people with kidney or liver disease and those who are pregnant or breastfeeding should confirm it's safe for them first.

Glutamine Amino Acid 500 mg by Higher Nature Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
L-Glutamine from Higher Nature may interact with anticonvulsant medications (drugs used to prevent seizures).
The concern is theoretical: glutamine is broken down in your body into glutamate, an excitatory brain chemical that might work against how anticonvulsants are supposed to calm seizure activity. However, this interaction has not been reported in actual patients — it's a possibility based on how the supplement is metabolized.
