Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This powder contains one active ingredient: L-glutamine, an amino acid your body naturally makes and uses for gut health, muscle support, and immune function. There are no inactive ingredients listed for this product.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: muscle recovery and post-workout support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, Exercise-induced muscle damage, Postoperative recovery, Wound healing, Burns, Critical illness (trauma) — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Glutamine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Critical illness (trauma) (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Glutamine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Postoperative recovery.
  • Also on file: Glutamine is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Athletic performance, Burns.

The evidence supports L-glutamine as effective for sickle cell disease. It's rated possibly effective for HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and recovery from critical illness or trauma.

The data we hold doesn't establish effectiveness for other uses.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

L-glutamine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults when taken by mouth. The most common side effects are digestive — belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain — along with headache and muscle pain.

A small number of people have reported dizziness, and very rarely, mania or hypomania has occurred in people with bipolar disorder. If you have kidney or liver disease, use this only under your doctor's supervision.

There isn't enough safety data to recommend supplemental doses during pregnancy, though glutamine is rated likely safe in pregnancy — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you. Safety information during breastfeeding is limited; avoid supplement doses unless your clinician advises otherwise.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Glutamine.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: seizure medications.
  • For scale: 50 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on any anticonvulsant medications (seizure preventers) — the interaction is moderate in severity and theoretically could reduce how well they work, even though it hasn't been seen in people yet.

Glutamine Pure by Iron-Tek: Common Questions

Does Glutamine Pure by Iron-Tek interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Glutamine Pure has a known interaction with 50 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Glutamine Pure contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this help my digestion or gut health?
L-glutamine plays a role in gut function, but the evidence we hold doesn't establish whether this product is effective for digestive health specifically. The most common side effects are actually digestive — bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, and nausea — so it may upset your stomach rather than settle it. Talk with your doctor if you're thinking about using it for digestion.
Is it safe to take if I'm pregnant?
L-glutamine is rated likely safe in pregnancy, but there isn't enough data to be completely certain. Discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist to decide what's right for your situation.
Can I breastfeed while taking this?
Safety data is limited. Avoid supplement doses while breastfeeding unless your doctor or pharmacist advises you to take it.
What's the most common side effect?
Digestive upset — belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, gas, and nausea are the most frequently reported. Starting with a lower dose and building up slowly may help.
Is this safe if I have kidney or liver disease?
No — use it only under medical supervision if you have kidney or liver problems. Talk with your doctor before starting.
Does this help you build muscle?
L-glutamine is used in muscle tissue, but the evidence we hold doesn't establish whether this supplement is effective for muscle building. It is rated possibly effective for recovery after trauma or critical illness.
