Jiaogulan appears generally well tolerated when used as a tea or supplement for short periods, but long-term safety hasn't been well studied. In trials lasting up to 4 months, the most common side effects were diarrhea and nausea.

Dizziness, insomnia, and dry mouth have also been reported. Do not use this product during pregnancy — safety has not been established and it may affect the developing baby.
