Here's the idea behind this pairing. Denosumab (Prolia or XGEVA) is a lab-made antibody that calms down the cells that break down bone, and it also has some dampening effect on parts of the immune system. Jiaogulan, on the other hand, has been shown in lab and animal work to stimulate the immune system. So in theory, jiaogulan could nudge things in the opposite direction from a medicine meant to quiet immune activity.

I want to be honest: this is a theoretical concern, not something proven in people taking these two together. Denosumab isn't a prodrug, so this isn't about your liver activating or clearing it. It's purely about opposite effects on the immune system. The practical risk is low for most folks, but since denosumab does affect immunity, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before adding jiaogulan.

About Denosumab Injection

What Is Denosumab Injection Used For?

Brand names: Prolia, XGEVA

Jubbonti (denosumab) injection is used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men at high risk for fracture, including those who have already had a fracture or who have not responded to other osteoporosis medicines. It is also used to treat osteoporosis caused by long-term steroid (glucocorticoid) use in men and women.

Jubbonti is additionally used to increase bone mass in men receiving androgen deprivation therapy (a hormone-lowering treatment) for nonmetastatic prostate cancer, and in women receiving aromatase inhibitor therapy for breast cancer — both of which can weaken bones over time.
