Here's the thinking on this pairing. Fingolimod works by calming down certain immune cells so they cause less nerve damage in MS. Jiaogulan, on the other hand, has shown signs in lab and animal work that it may stimulate the immune system. So in theory, the two could work against each other, and jiaogulan might chip away at how well fingolimod controls your MS.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. This is a theoretical concern based on how these things behave, not something proven in people taking both. Still, since fingolimod is doing important work, I wouldn't add jiaogulan on your own. Please check with your neurologist or pharmacist first so they can weigh it for your situation.

About Fingolimod

What Is Fingolimod Used For?

Brand names: Gilenya, Tascenso ODT

Fingolimod — available as capsules (Fingolimod, Fingolimod Hydrochloride, and Gilenya) and as an orally disintegrating tablet (Tascenso ODT) — is approved for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) in patients 10 years of age and older. This includes clinically isolated syndrome (a first MS episode), relapsing-remitting MS (the most common type with flare-ups and periods of stability), and active secondary progressive MS (a later stage where disability gradually worsens but relapses still occur).

All supported formulations share these same approved uses. The goal of treatment is to reduce the frequency of relapses and slow disease activity.
