Here is the idea behind this one. Ciclesonide (Alvesco, Omnaris, Zetonna) is an inhaled or nasal corticosteroid that works by calming swelling and immune activity in your airways. Jiaogulan, on the other hand, has been shown in lab and animal studies to gently stimulate the immune system. So in theory, they push in opposite directions, and jiaogulan could slightly work against the steroid's effect.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on how the compounds behave, not real reports of people losing asthma control. Inhaled ciclesonide also acts mostly right in the airways, so a whole-body effect is less likely. Still, if you notice more wheezing or chest tightness, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Ciclesonide Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand names: Omnaris, Alvesco, Zetonna

Alvesco (ciclesonide) inhaler is approved for the maintenance treatment of asthma as a preventive therapy in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is taken regularly to reduce airway inflammation and help prevent asthma symptoms — not to relieve a sudden attack.

Alvesco is not a rescue inhaler and should not be used to treat sudden wheezing or acute asthma episodes. It is also not approved for children under 12.
