Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Methylprednisolone
Methylprednisolone falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Jiaogulan interacts with.
Clinical and animal studies suggest that jiaogulan can stimulate the immune system.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thinking with this pairing. One of the reasons people take methylprednisolone (Medrol) is to calm down an overactive immune system, whether that's for severe allergies, arthritis flares, or certain skin and bowel conditions. Jiaogulan, on the other hand, has been studied as something that may stimulate the immune system. So in theory, the two could work against each other, and your steroid might not quiet things down as well as expected.
I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It's based mostly on how jiaogulan behaves in lab and animal studies, not on solid human trials, so it's more a 'keep an eye on it' caution than a hard rule. Still, if you're relying on methylprednisolone to control a flare and you notice your symptoms creeping back, mention the jiaogulan to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
