L-Glutamine Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by LiveLong
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking L-Glutamine against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of L-Glutamine by LiveLong
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
LiveLong's L-Glutamine is a single-ingredient powder — just the amino acid glutamine itself, with no fillers or other active ingredients. Glutamine is a building block your body makes naturally; this product gives you a supplemental dose to support specific health needs under the right conditions.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence backs L-Glutamine most strongly for sickle cell disease, where it's rated effective. For HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and critical illness from trauma, the evidence is promising but not yet conclusive — rated possibly effective.
Talk with your doctor about whether it fits your particular situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Glutamine is generally well tolerated by healthy adults. The most common side effects from oral doses are digestive — belching, bloating, gas, nausea, constipation, or diarrhea — along with occasional headache or muscle pain.
A few people have reported dizziness or, in very rare cases, mood changes (mania or hypomania) in bipolar disorder, though these resolved or improved with dose adjustment. If you have kidney or liver disease, use L-Glutamine only under medical supervision.
There isn't enough reliable safety data to recommend it during pregnancy without talking to your doctor first, though the available information suggests it's likely safe. Safety data for breastfeeding is limited — discuss this with your healthcare provider if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your anticonvulsant medications (seizure drugs) before taking L-Glutamine — the supplement might theoretically reduce how well they work, though this hasn't been confirmed in patients yet. Use the medication search tool on this page to confirm your exact drugs aren't affected.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-Glutamine may help with sickle cell disease and possibly with recovery from surgery or critical illness. If you take anticonvulsant medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
People with kidney or liver disease should use it only under medical supervision. Talk it over with your own doctor or pharmacist to see if it's right for you.

L-Glutamine by LiveLong Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
