L-alanine's effectiveness for its listed uses — prostate health, thinking ability, blood sugar, dehydration, and fatigue — has not been reliably established in the data we hold. Evidence for L-alanyl-L-glutamine effectiveness isn't on file for us.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-glutamine and glycine are generally well tolerated in healthy adults. Gut symptoms with L-glutamine are common with high doses — belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting have appeared in clinical trials using 10–30 grams daily.
Rare cases of dizziness, headache, mania, and hypomania in bipolar disorder have been reported. With glycine, mild sedation, insomnia, irritability, memory issues, and soft stools or nausea can occur but are uncommon and usually resolve when you stop taking it.
L-glutamine and L-alanine are rated likely safe in pregnancy and lactation. Glycine has insufficient data — there isn't enough safety information to know either way, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it while pregnant or breastfeeding.
People with kidney or liver disease should use L-glutamine only under medical supervision.

Glutamine is metabolized to the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate. Glutamate might have antagonistic effects with anticonvulsant drugs. However, this interaction has not yet been reported in humans.
Glycine
Clozapine (Clozaril)
Theoretically, glycine might decrease the effectiveness of clozapine.
One small clinical study in patients with schizophrenia shows that adding glycine to clozapine therapy worsens symptoms of schizophrenia when compared with clozapine alone. The mechanism of this interaction is unclear.
