Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 2 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

True Veda's Organic Amla is a 2-ingredient capsule: organic Amla full spectrum standardized CO2 and water extracts, and organic Amla full spectrum vitamin C standardized extract — both derived from Indian gooseberry. The capsule shell itself is plant-based hypromellose, an inactive ingredient.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Indian Gooseberry's overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports Indian Gooseberry for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Dyslipidemia — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).
  • On file: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

Indian gooseberry is possibly effective for GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) and dyslipidemia (abnormal blood lipid levels). The evidence for cholesterol management and male-pattern hair loss is insufficient — we don't have enough reliable data to know whether it works for those uses.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Indian gooseberry is generally well tolerated when used as food, but supplement safety at higher doses hasn't been as thoroughly studied. A small number of trial participants reported stomach discomfort or indigestion, and a few reported fatigue or muscle pain.

The safety data advises against using this supplement during pregnancy and breastfeeding — there isn't enough reliable information to know whether it's safe at those times. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Indian Gooseberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 208 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking True Veda's Organic Amla, double-check it with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants), antiplatelet drugs, aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), or diabetes medications. Research shows the ingredient may increase bleeding risk and lower blood sugar further — your medication doses might need adjustment.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Organic Amla may help with GERD or abnormal lipid levels, but it's not proven for cholesterol or hair loss. The main caution is its interaction with blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs, and diabetes medications — if you take any of those, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

Avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless your healthcare provider advises otherwise.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, Indian gooseberry may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs; however, research is conflicting.
Clinical research shows that taking Indian gooseberry 500 mg as a single dose or twice daily for 10 days reduces platelet aggregation by about 24% to 36%, increases bleeding time by about 3.8-5.9 seconds, and increases clotting time by about 9.8-12.7 seconds when compared to baseline. However, taking Indian gooseberry 500 mg along with clopidogrel 75 mg or ecosprin 75 mg, as a single dose or for 10 days, does not significantly reduce platelet aggregation or increase bleeding time or clotting time when compared with clopidogrel 75 mg or ecosprin 75 mg alone. Until more is known, use caution when taking Indian gooseberry in combination with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.

Likelihood Possible Evidence B
Antidiabetes Drugs

Taking Indian gooseberry with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking Indian gooseberry fruit or fruit extract alone or in conjunction with antidiabetes medications can lower blood glucose levels. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications might be necessary.

Likelihood Possible Evidence B
Aspirin

Theoretically, Indian gooseberry may increase the risk of bleeding if used with aspirin; however, research is conflicting.
However, taking a single dose of Indian gooseberry 500 mg along with ecosprin 75 mg, or taking a combination of Indian gooseberry 500 mg twice daily plus ecosprin 75 mg once daily for 10 days, does not significantly reduce platelet aggregation or increase bleeding time or clotting time when compared with ecosprin 75 mg alone.

Likelihood Possible Evidence B
Clopidogrel (Plavix)

Theoretically, Indian gooseberry may increase the risk of bleeding if used with clopidogrel; however, research is conflicting.

Organic Amla by True Veda: Common Questions

Does Organic Amla by True Veda interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Organic Amla has a known interaction with 208 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Organic Amla contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
The safety data advises against it. There isn't enough reliable information to know whether it's safe at supplement doses during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
What side effects might I experience?
A small number of trial participants reported stomach discomfort or indigestion, and a few reported fatigue or muscle pain. Indian gooseberry is generally well tolerated as a food, though supplement safety is less studied than food use.
Does Organic Amla actually work for GERD?
It's possibly effective — meaning the evidence suggests it may help, but it's not conclusive. The same goes for abnormal lipid levels. For cholesterol and hair loss, we don't have enough reliable data yet.
Why are both ingredients the same — Indian gooseberry?
Yes, they are both forms of the same plant: one is a full spectrum CO2 and water extract, the other is standardized for vitamin C. The interactions and effects are the same because they come from the same source.
Will this thin my blood if I'm not on blood thinners?
Research shows Indian gooseberry can reduce platelet clumping and lengthen bleeding time slightly — about 24–36% reduction and 4–6 seconds longer. If you're not on blood thinners already, the risk is low, but it's still worth mentioning to your doctor or pharmacist, especially before surgery.
